This is The After Party 💃

We’ve all heard this popular saying about diversity & inclusion:

Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance.

Something about this phrase has always bugged me. What if I don’t want to dance? What is this party for?! Do I need to bring anything???

As you might’ve guessed, I’m not a huge fan of metaphors. They sound nice, but oftentimes, they don’t truly capture the heart of a concept – especially when it comes to complex and nuanced topics like diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Enter The After Party.

Let’s be real: No one really knows what they’re doing about diversity & inclusion (or in life, but that’s a different conversation). My goal with The After Party is to break inclusion down with simple, no-nonsense exploration, interviews, and other fun stuff. I’m on a mission to learn – and I hope you join me.

New to DEI?

DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) is an umbrella term that refers to the strategies, policies, practices, and mindsets that move a company towards creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.

Here’s a selection of my favorite resources if you want to learn more about DEI:

New to Me?

If you’re not one of my tens of friends, colleagues, or family members who have subscribed to this newsletter because I asked you to, then hello! Here’s a bit about me:

I’m Sophie, I’m a British-born, half Thai half Danish, freelance writer based in Amsterdam (I know, it’s a mouthful). In a previous life (literally six months ago), I worked in marketing – but I recently discovered a passion for all things DEI. In my free time, I like to read (currently The Authority Gap by Mary Ann Sieghart), watch Netflix (currently Kim’s Convenience), and pretend I exercise more than I do. Feel free to connect!
